A Dhaka court on Tuesday approved a five-day fresh remand for Mahmudul Hasan Mahin in connection with the brutal killing of scrap metal trader Lal Chand, also known as Mohammad Sohag, near Mitford Hospital. Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Minhazur Rahman issued the order after police produced Mahin and requested an additional 10 days for further interrogation.
Mahin was first remanded for five days on July 10. The case involves a series of arrests related to the incident, which drew widespread attention.
In the same case, a Dhaka court on Monday remanded two brothers, Sajib Bepari and Rajib Bepari, for five days each. Earlier, on Sunday, Alamgir and Monir were placed on four-day remands, while accused Titon Gazi was remanded for five days on Saturday.
The murder occurred on July 9 when a group of assailants attacked Sohag with large chunks of concrete and beat him to death in broad daylight near Mitford Hospital. The next day, Sohag’s sister, Monjuara Begum, filed a case at Kotwali police station in connection with the incident.
