A Dhaka court has acquitted Hanif Mia, owner of Hanif Paribahan, in a case filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission for failing to submit a wealth statement. The verdict was announced on Monday by Judge Md. Rabiul Alam of the Special Judge Court-4 in the presence of Hanif Mia, confirmed by his lawyer.

The case alleged that Hanif Mia accumulated assets valued at approximately 40.44 million Bangladeshi taka. Of these, 17.53 million taka worth of assets were claimed to have been acquired from unknown sources of income. The Anti-Corruption Commission had issued a notice to him on November 29, 2020, under the relevant section of the anti-corruption law, demanding his wealth statement.

Hanif Mia received the notice on December 9, 2020, but failed to respond within the required timeframe. Subsequently, on April 4, 2021, a case was filed against him by an ACC deputy director for his failure to submit the required wealth declaration. The court, however, found him not guilty and acquitted him of the charges.
