Dengue Fatalities Rise to 48 in Bangladesh as Cases Surge

Three more individuals have succumbed to dengue in Bangladesh over the past 24 hours, bringing the total death toll from the mosquito-borne disease this year to 48, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

In addition, 492 new patients were admitted to hospitals with viral fever, pushing the total number of cases to 12,763 for 2023. The breakdown of cases includes 154 in Barishal division (excluding the city corporation), 51 in Chattogram division (excluding the city corporation), 54 in Khulna division (excluding the city corporation), 10 in Mymensingh division, 61 in Rajshahi division, three in Rangpur division, one in Sylhet division, 69 in Dhaka division, with 36 cases in Dhaka North City Corporation and 53 in Dhaka South City Corporation.

Last year, dengue claimed the lives of 575 people across Bangladesh, highlighting the continuing threat of the disease during the monsoon season. Authorities remain on high alert as cases continue to rise.
