Deadly Wildfires Ravage Canada: Emergency Declared in Manitoba

In Alberta, some oil and gas extraction activities have been suspended amid the crisis. Cenovus Energy reported that they have evacuated personnel from their Foster Creek operations in northern Alberta.

In the north, a wildfire has scorched approximately 2,900 hectares near Chippewa Lake, close to the oil-rich town of Fort McMurray. Oil companies in the region are on high alert. Officials state that there is currently no immediate threat to the area, but changing wind conditions could worsen the situation. Residents in the vicinity have been warned to evacuate within an hour should conditions deteriorate.

Further south, near Swan Hills, a massive wildfire has engulfed about 1,600 hectares. Around 1,200 residents were ordered to evacuate late Monday night. Oil and gas company Aspenleaf Energy has temporarily suspended production for safety reasons.
