Quinton de Kock is painting the farewell stage: Before the start of the World Cup, the wicketkeeper-batsman announced that he would end ODI cricket with the current season. In the last season, he broke one record after another with devastating batting. After back-to-back centuries against Sri Lanka and Australia, he reached the magic figure of three against Bangladesh and lastly against New Zealand today.
De Kock sits next to Lankan legend Kumar Sangakkara (2015 World Cup) on the record of four centuries in World Cup A. If he gets another century, Rohit Sharma will reach the record of a maximum of five centuries in one tournament (2019 World Cup). Interestingly, de Kock did not have a single-century innings in the World Cup before this.
Not only did he stop here, but de Kock also holds the record for the highest number of runs for South Africa in a World Cup. Apart from this, the Proteas, the owner of the highest runs (545 runs) in the current World Cup, is also the opener.
However, he could not last long after completing the century. He was palmed by Glenn Phillips at backward point off Southee’s off-stump. He scored 114 runs off 116 balls with 10 fours and three sixes before returning to the dugout.
South Africa lost the toss to bat against New Zealand in the seventh round of the World Cup in Pune and is on the way to making another big capital. South Africa is on the way to 300 after losing 2 wickets till the last news.
