The curfew remains in place in Gopalganj district town amid an uneasy calm today, following violent clashes on Wednesday between Awami League activists and law enforcement over a rally organized by the NCP. The government imposed the curfew to control the rising tensions.

According to a statement from the Chief Adviser’s Press Wing, the curfew will stay in effect until 6 pm today.

Throughout Wednesday, Gopalganj experienced heightened unrest as activists from the Awami League, its banned student wing Chhatra League, and other affiliated groups occupied various locations, wielding sticks and throwing bricks.

In response, security forces including the army, Rapid Action Battalion, police, and four platoons of Border Guard Bangladesh conducted intensified patrols across the city to restore order.

Additionally, Section 144 was imposed in Gopalganj Sadar by Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Kamruzzaman, although no specific time limit was mentioned.
