Extortion is alarmingly high in the Mohammadpur and Mirpur areas, said Interior Adviser Lt. Gen. (Retd.) Md. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury during a visit to Mohammadpur Krishi Market on Saturday, August 16. He issued a stern warning that no extortionist regardless of influence or position will be allowed to operate in Bangladesh.
“If you know of any extortionist, show us. We’ll take action,” he urged locals, emphasizing that law enforcement is ready to bring offenders under the full weight of the law.
When asked about specific allegations against an individual named Asif, the adviser declined to comment, stating, “Whatever the accusations may be, I won’t speak on that here.”
Turning to the issue of drug abuse, he called on citizens to take a stand. “We’ve become an intolerant society. When something bad happens, we rush to take pictures but we don’t act to stop it. If wrongdoing is taking place, it’s your responsibility to intervene,” he said.
The adviser stressed that eliminating drugs requires more than just government effort it demands active public involvement. “Only through united action can we restore peace and safety in our communities,” he concluded.
