Joe Buffone, deputy coordinator-general of the National Emergency Management Agency, briefed reporters today at Canberra’s National Situation Room. He stated that attention has now shifted to a cold front moving through South Australia and Victoria.
The front is expected to impact southern and eastern New South Wales in the coming hours. Buffone highlighted wind as the main concern, warning of many trees potentially falling due to gusts reaching up to 75 kilometers per hour in some offshore regions.
A gale warning is currently in place for the Eden Coast. Warnings will extend to Batemans, Illawarra, Sydney, Hunter, and Macquarie coasts tomorrow.
Prime Minister Anthony Albanese urged residents to exercise caution and use common sense. He emphasized that risks remain, especially in flood-affected areas.
“The ground is really wet,” he said. “Heavy winds and vulnerable trees or structures could come down unexpectedly.” Albanese urged everyone to stay alert and prioritize safety as severe weather continues to threaten the region.
