Members of the Bangladesh Coast Guard intercepted a large quantity of illegal octane during a raid on the Karnaphuli River in Chittagong on Friday.
Around 12:30 in the early morning, Coast Guard personnel spotted a boat near Bridge Ghat offloading the fuel illegally. During the operation, they seized 3,170 liters of octane, valued at approximately Tk3.9 lakh.
One individual, identified as Md Shahid, 30, a local resident, was arrested at the scene. When the officers approached, the smugglers suddenly attacked the Coast Guard team to escape, but the situation was quickly brought under control.
Lieutenant Commander Harun-ur-Rashid, the Coast Guard media officer, stated that the seized octane was stolen from various ships and was being smuggled through the river route. He confirmed that legal proceedings are underway to address the incident.
