Cloverdale Man Charged With Murder Over Bedfordale Car Park Death

1 min read

A 48-year-old man from Cloverdale has been charged with murder in connection with the death of Perth father Elmars Kalejs, whose body was discovered injured beside his car on Good Friday. Mr. Kalejs, 53, was found unconscious on April 18 next to his silver Holden Commodore in the Settlers’ Common Environmental Centre car park in Bedfordale.

Paramedics rushed him to Royal Perth Hospital, where he was treated for serious head trauma and multiple broken ribs. Despite intensive care, he succumbed to his injuries two months later on June 24.

In the weeks following his discovery, WA Police appealed for witnesses to come forward, hoping to unravel the circumstances behind the brutal assault. Mr. Kalejs’s daughter, Courtney Mallard, described her father as a loving, gentle man who “lived off the land” and pleaded for answers so her family could find closure.

Today, detectives confirmed they have laid a murder charge against the 48-year-old Cloverdale man. He is due to appear before Perth Magistrates Court tomorrow.
