A violent clash broke out in Bhola on Saturday between activists of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) and the Bangladesh Jatiya Party (BJP), led by Barrister Andaleeve Rahman Partho. The confrontation erupted around 12:45 p.m. in front of the Bhola district BJP office at Notunbazar.
According to reports, the clash lasted for nearly half an hour and involved chasing, counter-chasing, brick-throwing, and stick attacks, leaving at least 50 activists from both sides injured. Several of the seriously wounded were admitted to Bhola General Hospital for treatment.
Tensions had been building in the town since morning due to pre-scheduled programs announced by both parties. Around 11:45 a.m., thousands of BJP activists brought out a procession from the district office, which circled through Barishal Dalan Mor before returning to the office, where a rally began.
Meanwhile, BNP activists had been holding a separate gathering in front of their district office at Mahajanpotti since the morning. At around 12:30 p.m., thousands of BNP supporters marched towards Notunbazar and reached the Press Club area, where they came face-to-face with BJP activists.
The situation quickly escalated, leading to violent clashes. Witnesses reported hearing sounds resembling explosions, adding to the panic in the area.
Authorities confirmed that the confrontation caused widespread disruption in the town, though no official statement has yet been made regarding arrests or further action.
