Civilian Deaths Mount in Ukraine’s Kherson and Donetsk

Kherson: Russian shelling has killed at least two civilians in Ukraine’s southern Kherson region, including a 49‑year‑old woman found in the rubble of her home, local officials said on Monday.

The strikes follow a deadly weekend in which six people were killed across Ukraine. In the Russian‑occupied city of Horlivka in Donetsk, Moscow‑appointed authorities said five people were injured in a Ukrainian attack.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said his forces were making progress in the northern Sumy region and inflicting “significant losses” on Russian troops in Donetsk and Kharkiv. He reiterated calls for more Western air defense systems, warning that Russia’s intensified missile and drone attacks were aimed at breaking civilian morale ahead of winter.

Humanitarian agencies have expressed concern over the rising civilian toll, noting that many of the casualties occur far from the front lines, in areas where residents have limited access to shelters or evacuation routes.
