Chattogram came alive on Saturday as the country’s largest religious procession marking Eid-e-Milad-un-Nabi (PBUH) the 54th Jashne Julus began with thousands of worshippers gathering from dawn. Devotees from across the city converged on the grounds of Muradpur Jameya Ahmadiyya Sunnia Kamil Madrasa before the procession set off at 9 a.m. from the Almgir Khanqah. Voices joined in unison, reciting “Ya Nabi Salam Alaika, Ya Rasul Salam Alaika” as the march moved forward.

Led by Allama Syed Muhammad Sabir Shah, the event was organized by Anjuman-e-Rahmania Ahmadiyya Sunnia Trust with support from Gausia Committee Bangladesh. To maintain a Sharia-compliant environment, the use of drum sets, participation of women, and the throwing of food were prohibited. This year’s procession carried added significance, marking both the 1,500th anniversary of the Prophet’s (PBUH) birth and the centenary of the organizing trust.

First held in Chattogram on 12 Rabiul Awal in 1974, the Jashne Julus has become an integral part of the city’s cultural and religious heritage. For the occasion, Chattogram was adorned in vibrant colors, with decorative arches, banners, festoons, and flags lining the streets. Temporary stalls selling food and goods sprang up along the route, while volunteers offered refreshments to participants, adding to the festive yet reverent atmosphere.
