A tumultuous scene unfolded at Armidale Secondary College in northern New South Wales, leading to the arrest of a woman and two girls after a violent altercation that left two teachers hospitalized.
Police responded swiftly to reports around 10:30 AM that two girls, aged 11 and 13, had assaulted staff members while attempting to attack another student. Four staff members sustained minor injuries, with two requiring treatment at Armidale Hospital for further assessment.
As officers arrived on the scene, they discovered that the 13-year-old girl had also assaulted a police officer during the chaos. Meanwhile, a 34-year-old woman, who had arrived at the school amid the incident, allegedly verbally abused both staff and law enforcement before being arrested. She faces charges of resisting arrest, intimidation, and failure to comply with police orders.
In light of the escalating situation, school principal Kim Alford informed parents that the institution enacted its lockdown procedure, which remained in effect until 11:45 AM. “Students remained in their classrooms with teachers until the matter had been dealt with,” she stated, adding that an assembly was held to address the incident and offer emotional support to affected students.
While no students were harmed, the NSW Department of Education condemned the violence, emphasizing that it is “completely unacceptable in NSW public schools.” The department confirmed that both girls have been suspended, along with other students who filmed the incident.
The school community is now left to grapple with the aftermath of this unsettling event, as investigations continue.
