Catherine O’Hara has been awarded a posthumous Actor Award for her acclaimed performance in the comedy series The Studio, a moment that drew both emotion and admiration across the industry. The beloved 71‑year‑old star died unexpectedly in January from a pulmonary embolism, leaving behind a legacy that continues to resonate with audiences and colleagues alike.
Her portrayal of a sharp‑witted, ousted studio head in the Hollywood satire was hailed as one of the standout performances of the year. Already a comedy icon thanks to roles in Beetlejuice, Best in Show and Schitt’s Creek, O’Hara brought a fresh brilliance to the series that critics widely praised.
Seth Rogen accepted the award for Best Female Actor in a Comedy Series on her behalf, calling it “a very sad honour.” He reflected on her extraordinary generosity and creative power on set, recalling how she would email him and co‑creator Evan Goldberg the night before filming with a completely rewritten version of the next day’s scene. “One hundred per cent of the time it made not just her character better, but the scene and the show as a whole,” he said, drawing warm laughter from the audience. “She showed you could be a genius and be kind.”
Rogen urged viewers to revisit O’Hara’s past work, saying the world was “lucky to live in a time where she so generously shared her talents.”
He also took home an Actor Award earlier in the evening for his own performance in The Studio, which went on to win Best Ensemble in a Comedy Show.
The ceremony opened with its traditional “I am an actor” segment, featuring light‑hearted reflections from performers including Kristen Wiig, Teyana Taylor and Delroy Lindo a moment that set the tone for a night celebrating craft, humour and heartfelt remembrance.
