A case has been filed following the devastating road accident in Kala Kachua, Burichang Upazila of Cumilla, where a private car collided with a bus on the Dhaka–Chattogram highway, killing five people a husband, wife, their two children and the car’s driver.
Burichang Police Station OC Lutfur Rahman confirmed on Friday evening that the case was lodged by Faisal Ahmed, brother of the deceased Jharna Begum. The district administration has provided Tk25,000 to each of the deceased families and Tk15,000 to each injured survivor.
Locals said the private car had mistakenly entered the Chattogram‑bound lane near Miami Hotel on Thursday evening while heading towards Dhaka, intending to stop for food. That wrong‑side entry led to the fatal collision. Moynamati Highway Police OC Abdul Momin said the case was filed against unidentified persons and that investigators are examining all angles. He confirmed early indications suggest the private car was on the wrong side of the road, but a full picture will emerge after the probe.
Burichang Upazila Executive Officer Tanvir Ahmed said the administration has so far provided Tk1,40,000 in total assistance to the victims’ families and the injured. Families have also been advised to apply for further support from the BRTA Trustee Board.
The tragic crash has once again highlighted the deadly consequences of wrong‑side driving on one of the country’s busiest highways.
