Cambodia Plans to Nominate Trump for Nobel Peace Prize After Ceasefire Effort

1 min read

Cambodia’s deputy prime minister announced that the country will nominate former US president Donald Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize following his role in helping secure a ceasefire between Cambodia and Thailand. The agreement ended days of fierce clashes that resulted in at least 43 deaths, displaced over 300,000 people, and marked the worst border violence in more than a decade.

Sun Chanthol praised Trump for his diplomatic intervention, thanking him for bringing peace to the region. He stated, “We acknowledge his great efforts for peace,” and believed the former president deserved recognition for his role in ending the conflict.

The Nobel Peace Prize is one of the world’s most prestigious awards, given to individuals or organizations that make significant contributions to fostering international fellowship. Cambodia’s decision to recommend Trump came after a phone call he reportedly made, which helped break a deadlock between Phnom Penh and Bangkok over the weekend.
