Bunnings has stepped into the future of home improvement with the launch of “Buddy,” an AI‑powered shopping assistant designed to change the way Australians tackle their weekend DIY projects.
Developed in partnership with Google Cloud, Bunnings becomes the first Australian retailer and one of the first globally to deploy Google’s advanced Gemini Enterprise for Customer Experience technology at scale. The result is an intelligent digital helper that behaves much like a knowledgeable Bunnings team member.
Buddy can scan and understand handwritten shopping lists, automatically locating every item and adding them to a customer’s cart. For bigger, more complex projects, the AI can guide shoppers step‑by‑step, suggest materials, estimate total costs and even connect them with local tradies when a job requires professional help.
The system draws on Bunnings’ extensive library of how‑to guides as well as insights from real team members, giving customers personalised advice whether they’re building a deck, renovating a bathroom or simply replacing a tap.
Bunnings says the goal is to make DIY easier, smarter and more accessible and early reactions suggest Buddy could become a weekend essential for millions of Australians.
