In a significant move, Bangladesh’s interim government has banned all activities of the Awami League, including its online presence, under the Anti-Terrorism Act. This decision comes as the party faces trial at the International Crimes Tribunal.
The Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) is set to block the party’s Facebook page and other digital platforms once the Advisory Council issues the official gazette notification. Faiz Ahmad Taiyeb, Special Assistant to the Chief Adviser for the Ministry of Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology, confirmed the development, stating that formal letters will be sent to Meta and other online platforms to enforce the ban swiftly.
The ban follows the Advisory Council’s decision on Saturday night, which led to the Awami League posting a protest message on its official page
