Residents along the Teesta riverbank are finally getting relief as the highly anticipated Third Teesta Road Bridge opens to traffic on Wednesday. The 1,490 metre span stands as a long cherished dream fulfilled for people in Chilmari, Kurigram and Sundarganj, Gaibandha.

Despite delays, with the project deadline pushed back five times, the bridge is ready for use and will be inaugurated this week.

LGED supervised the construction, with the main structure costing 367 crore taka. An additional 363.85 crore was spent on approach roads, river training, culverts and land acquisition, bringing the total project outlay to more than 730 crore.

This is the Teesta’s longest bridge to date, surpassing the earlier 750 metre bridge built in 2012 at Gokunda and the 850 metre span completed in 2018 at Mahipur.

The third bridge is expected to transform the northern region’s economy and connectivity, unlocking greater movement of people and goods.
