Bridge Blocked, Voices Unshaken: Protest Finds New Path

1 min read

Organisers of a pro-Palestinian rally in Brisbane have confirmed they will march along an alternative route this Sunday, after a Queensland court banned their original plan to cross the Story Bridge. The court cited safety concerns due to the bridge’s structural issues and the expected size of the crowd around 7,000 people.

The protest is part of a nationwide movement calling for an end to the war in Gaza. Rally organiser Remah Naj said the group had already achieved visibility without stepping foot on the bridge, referencing the momentum from a recent Sydney demonstration that saw nearly 100,000 people shut down the Harbour Bridge.

Police argued the bridge’s complexity and closed pedestrian paths posed risks, prompting the court to block the route. But Naj dismissed the decision as “blatant political repression,” affirming the group’s resilience and commitment to public safety.

“We will not be broken,” she declared, confirming that organisers had successfully negotiated a new route with police. The protest will go ahead just not where originally planned.
