More than half a million people in Cambodia have been driven from their homes after two weeks of intense border clashes with Thailand, according to a statement released by Cambodia’s interior ministry on Sunday.
Officials said civilians, including many women and children, fled their communities to escape artillery fire, rocket attacks and aerial strikes involving F16 aircraft. The ministry reported that 518,611 people have been evacuated so far, describing the situation as severe hardship for families forced to abandon homes and schools.
Thailand has also confirmed that the renewed fighting has displaced about 400,000 people on its side of the border, underscoring the scale of the humanitarian crisis unfolding across the region.
