The BNP is preparing to form the next government after securing the highest number of seats in Bangladesh’s political history in the 13th national parliamentary election. Within the party, it is widely assumed that Chairman Tarique Rahman will take office as the new prime minister.
According to discussions with members of the BNP Standing Committee and senior leaders, Tarique Rahman is expected to form a cabinet that blends both experienced figures and younger leadership. The size of the cabinet and the distribution of ministries are set to be key agenda items at tonight’s Standing Committee meeting.
Party insiders say several prominent BNP leaders are being considered for ministerial roles. Among the names circulating are Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, Standing Committee members Salahuddin Ahmed, Major (Retd.) Hafiz Uddin Ahmed, Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury, Abdul Moyeen Khan, Gayeshwar Chandra Roy, Iqbal Hasan Mahmud Tuku and Dr. AZM Zahid Hossain.
The final decisions are expected to take shape after internal consultations, as the BNP prepares for its first opportunity in years to form a full national government.
