A delegation of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) held a meeting with Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) AMM Nasir Uddin on Thursday morning, October 23, at the Election Commission headquarters in Agargaon, Dhaka. The meeting began at 11 a.m. and was led by BNP Standing Committee member Dr Abdul Moyeen Khan. He was joined by Ismail Jabeeullah, a member of the party chairperson’s Advisory Council, and Dr Mohammad Zakaria, a former additional secretary.
According to sources, the discussions focused on several key issues related to the upcoming national election, including the re-demarcation of constituencies and other matters tied to ensuring a fair electoral process. The BNP delegation emphasized the importance of transparency and accountability in the Commission’s preparations.
This meeting followed an earlier dialogue on October 21, when a separate BNP team met with Professor Dr Muhammad Yunus, the Chief Adviser of the interim government, as part of a series of political consultations. That delegation included BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, Standing Committee member Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury, and Salahuddin Ahmed.
Through these consecutive meetings, BNP has been presenting its stance on the electoral process and the structural reforms it believes are necessary for credible polls. Political analysts suggest that such dialogues could play a crucial role in shaping the transparency, neutrality, and overall acceptability of the upcoming national election.
The BNP’s engagement with both the Election Commission and the interim government reflects its strategy to push for reforms and safeguards that it argues are essential to restore public trust in the electoral system. Observers note that the outcome of these discussions may significantly influence the political climate in the lead-up to the polls.
