BNP Criticizes Mamata Banerjee’s Call for UN Peacekeepers in Bangladesh

1 min read

The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has condemned West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s suggestion to deploy UN peacekeeping forces in Bangladesh, urging her to retract what they deem a deregulatory statement.

BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir stated that the comment poses a direct threat to Bangladesh’s sovereignty and independence.

Banerjee’s call for UN intervention was made in the context of ensuring the safety of religious minorities in Bangladesh, prompting a swift response from Fakhrul, who emphasized that the country achieved independence through struggle and recently restored democracy through popular movements.

He expressed concern over potential conspiracies linked to Banerjee’s statement, asserting that the Bangladeshi people would resist any such plot. Fakhrul also criticized the Indian media for spreading what he described as false narratives about minority communities in Bangladesh, stating that visiting journalists found no evidence supporting the need for UN peacekeepers.

Fakhrul accused certain groups of conspiring against Bangladesh’s stability, particularly in light of recent controversies involving the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON) leader Chinmoy Krishna Das. He labeled ISKCON’s recent activities as suspicious and a potential threat to the nation’s independence.
