BNP Chairperson and Former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia Passes Away

BNP Chairperson and former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia has passed away. Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji’un. She died at 6 a.m. on Tuesday (30 December) while undergoing treatment at Evercare Hospital in Dhaka.

The BNP Chairperson’s Press Wing confirmed the news, stating that her personal physician and BNP National Standing Committee member Professor Dr. AZM Zahid Hossain officially announced her death.

According to the statement, several family members were present at the hospital at the time, including her elder son and BNP’s Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman, his wife Dr. Zubaida Rahman, granddaughter Jaima Rahman, her younger son’s wife Sharmili Rahman Sinthi, younger brother Shamim Eskander, his wife, and her elder sister Selina Islam. BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir and members of the medical board overseeing her treatment were also present.

The Press Wing added that the schedule for Begum Khaleda Zia’s funeral (janaza) will be announced later.
