2 min read

Exciting news is on the horizon for Bangladesh’s digital transaction landscape. Google is set to introduce its new digital payment service, Google Wallet, to the local market. Known locally as Google Pay, this service is expected to become operational within the next month.

What is Google Pay?
Google Pay or Google Wallet is a digital wallet app for smartphones, where users can link their bank accounts or credit/debit cards. This allows for easy, quick, and secure payments directly from your mobile device.

How Does Google Pay Work?

  1. First, users need to download the app and link their bank account or card.
  2. To make a payment, simply bring the phone close to an NFC-enabled terminal or scan a QR code.
  3. During the transaction, authentication via PIN or biometric verification is required to confirm the payment.
  4. Once the payment is successful, a notification or receipt will be sent as proof of the transaction.

Who Will Be the First to Use This Service?
Initially, customers of City Bank will be able to connect their Visa and Mastercard (denominated in Bangladeshi Taka) to Google Wallet. Gradually, other banks will also join the platform, expanding access across the country.

This significant shift is expected to broaden Bangladesh’s digital economy and make transactions much easier, faster, and safer. From young professionals to senior citizens, everyone will soon enjoy the benefits of this modern payment technology, ushering in a new era of digital convenience in Bangladesh.
