Prosecutors in Antwerp, Belgium, have launched an investigation into the death of a 35-year-old Canadian woman who fell ill during the opening night of Tomorrowland, one of the world’s largest electronic music festivals. Officials aim to determine the cause of her death amid concerns raised by her sudden illness.
The woman became unwell at the festival held in Boom, near Antwerp, and was rushed to a hospital, where she was later pronounced dead, according to a spokeswoman for the Antwerp prosecutor’s office. Tomorrowland, renowned for hosting top DJs like David Guetta, Lost Frequencies, and Charlotte de Witte, attracts tens of thousands of electronic music fans from around the globe.
Despite the tragedy, festival organizers quickly arranged an alternative setup, and the event continued as scheduled. The incident has raised questions about safety, but no injuries related to the health emergency have been reported.
The cause of her illness remains unknown. The festival is expected to draw around 400,000 attendees over the next two weekends.
