The government will give an incentive of 13 thousand 500 taka to 270 crore taka to two lakh workers who returned to the country due to the corona epidemic. This incentive will start next December as per the official’s confirmation.
This information was given in an exchange meeting with journalists at Pravasi Kalyan Bhawan on Tuesday (November 28).
It was informed in the meeting that this incentive will be given under the project entitled Recovery and Advancement of Informal Sector Employment (RAISE) with the assistance of the World Bank.
Additionally, the officials informed in the meeting that about 5 lakh workers returned to the country in 2020 after losing their jobs due to Corona. Most of the repatriated workers are unemployed and are facing various adverse situations in society including financial problems with their families. Therefore, with the aim of their reunification, different types of cooperation will be provided for the rehabilitation and self-employment of the repatriated workers under the RAISE project with the loan support of the World Bank. As part of the cooperation, two lakh workers will be given a one-time incentive of 13 thousand 500 taka.
The Wage Earners Welfare Board of the Ministry of Expatriate Welfare and Foreign Employment organized this meeting. The meeting was chaired by the senior secretary of the Ministry of Expatriate Welfare.
