A lawyer has demanded that Shakib be immediately removed from the national squad and sent to Bangladesh in a legal notification issued to the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB).
Supreme Court lawyer Barrister Sajib Mahmud Alam issued the notice, arguing that since a criminal case has been recorded against Shakib, he is ineligible to remain in the national cricket team under the International Cricket Council (ICC) regulations. The notice further stressed the need for Shakib to be brought back to the country for investigation.
The case against Shakib was filed at the Adabar Police Station under the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP). The complaint accuses Shakib of being involved in the murder of garment worker Rubel during the mass protests against the Sheikh Hasina government.
The case, filed on Thursday by Rubel’s father, also names former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina as the accused.
