BCB Plans Cricket Tournament for Madrasa Students

The newly elected president of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), Aminul Islam Bulbul, has announced plans to organize a cricket tournament for madrasa students, expanding the game beyond its traditional reach in schools and colleges.

Speaking after the board’s first meeting on Tuesday, a day after the new committee was elected, Bulbul said the initiative is still at an early stage but will likely begin in the shorter T20 format. “We haven’t had detailed discussions yet. But since we’ve planned it, we’ll certainly try to implement it,” he said.

The BCB has long organized school cricket tournaments, but this marks the first time madrasa students will be brought under the same structure. Bulbul emphasized the importance of tapping into this vast pool of young talent. “There are millions of students in madrasas. If some of them can come into cricket, that would be a great addition,” he said.

The move is being seen as a significant step toward broadening the base of Bangladesh cricket, with hopes that it will create new opportunities for madrasa students to showcase and develop their sporting talent.
