Bayern Munich booked their place in the DFB-Pokal quarterfinals after a dramatic 3-2 victory over Union Berlin, a match defined by Union’s costly mistakes.
The Bavarians seized control early, opening the scoring in the 12th minute when Union forward Ilyas Ansah accidentally turned Joshua Kimmich’s corner into his own net. Midway through the first half, Kimmich delivered another pinpoint corner that Harry Kane glanced home with a header to double the lead. Kane has now scored in every round of the cup this season.
Union Berlin fought back, scoring twice to keep the contest alive, but also conceded another own goal that ultimately proved decisive. Of the five goals in the match, Union had a direct hand in four two for themselves and two against.
Despite the late drama, Bayern held on to secure their spot in the last eight, continuing their push for domestic cup glory.
