Barcelona revealed on Wednesday that they will return to their newly expanded and modernized stadium for a friendly match on August 10. This marks a significant milestone in the long-awaited renovation process that has been underway for years.
The match will serve as a partial reopening of the iconic stadium, with ongoing construction work in various areas. The club confirmed that work includes completing the new third tier, installing a dual VIP ring, adding a new roof, upgrading interior spaces, and developing the surrounding area.
While the club has not officially announced the stadium’s capacity for the event, local reports suggest that the available stands can accommodate around 35,000 fans.
The club expressed a sense of symbolism and emotion in their statement, saying, “Barcelona takes a symbolic and emotional step into the future, reclaiming its home in a new era that will culminate with the complete inauguration of the new stadium.”
Barcelona plans to continue work on the stadium after the friendly, requesting to play their first three La Liga matches of the upcoming season away from home. The project, known as “Espai Barca,” has faced several delays since starting in 2023. It is now scheduled for completion in the summer of 2026 and will increase the stadium’s capacity to 105,000 seats.
