It’s difficult to win a Test match, particularly when you’re up against the defending World Test champion, New Zealand, and you have to work hard for the entire five days.
Bangladesh’s stats against New Zealand in ODIs are as colorful as the outfit. On the contrary test, it is gray. Earlier, the Tigers had won only one of the 17 Tests against the Kiwis. That’s their ground at Mt Maunganui.
Although New Zealand has been beaten several times in ODIs at home, there has been no victory in Tests. Shanta-Taijul broke that drought today, picking up their first home win against the Kiwis.
Bangladesh defeated the former champions by 150 runs at the beginning of the new cycle of the Test Championship.
In response to Bangladesh’s 310 runs in the first innings, the Kiwis’ collection was 317.
Bangladesh came back to bat in the second innings after trailing by 7 runs. Bangladesh set a mountain target of 332 runs on captain Shantar’s century. Shanto 104, Mushfiqur Rahim 67, and Mehdi Hasan Miraj scored 50 not out.
New Zealand spinner Ejaz Patel took a maximum of 4 wickets.
Before this, New Zealand had no precedent of winning by chasing such a big run. The Kiwis stumbled early in their pursuit of the big target. Shariful Islam gave Bangladesh a great start in the first over of the innings.
Tom Latham was caught behind the wicket by punching this left-arm pacer’s short-length ball. The visitors lost their wicket before opening the run book after this opener was called.
