Mozambique’s post-presidential election violence has plunged the nation into chaos, leaving the Bangladeshi community living there in a state of anxiety. Faced with threats to their safety, they have appealed for assistance from the interim government.
On Wednesday, December 25th, expatriate Mohammad Saidur Rahman issued a video plea for help.
He stated, “We expatriates are caught in the crossfire of political vendetta. We are trapped in the clashes between the government and opposition forces. Around 10,000 Bangladeshis reside here. Our businesses and factories have been attacked. We are now living in dire conditions on the streets.”
Saidur Rahman further expressed, “In the absence of a Bangladeshi embassy, we seek intervention from the United Nations.”
Another expatriate, Nizam Uddin, reported, “Over 90% of shops have been looted. We are extremely vulnerable. We appeal for help from Dr. Muhammad Yunus and student coordinators.”
Immediate assistance is crucial for the Bangladeshis facing this crisis.
