Bangladeshi model and actress Jessia Islam, best known for her victory in the 2017 Miss World Bangladesh pageant, has once again captured international attention.

Competing in the Miss Grand International 2024 pageant held in Cambodia, Jessia may not have taken home the crown, but her striking outfits and powerful messages have caused a stir on social media.

In a bold and creative twist, Jessia used her attire to spotlight Bangladesh’s historical student and public protests, transforming fashion into a statement on resilience and revolution. One of her standout looks included an orange and golden saree-inspired gown, adorned with hashtags and slogans from Bangladesh’s July student movements. She even wore a golden embroidered sun on her back, symbolizing the dawn of a new era for her nation.

This creative portrayal of heritage met with an ensemble of traditional jewelry, including a tiara, waist belt, and bangles, blending tradition with a modern sense of identity. Jessia’s performances—ranging from bold, westernized looks to powerful, statement-driven outfits—brought both style and substance to the pageant stage.

While the Miss Grand International 2024 crown was ultimately claimed by an Indian contestant, with Christian Julian Opaisa of the Philippines as first runner-up and Myanmar’s Tha Su Nwe as second runner-up, Jessia’s unique presentation left a memorable impression, representing Bangladesh’s rich cultural narrative on an international platform.
