Bangladesh is gearing up to enhance training for prospective migrant workers, focusing on upskilling those in Saudi Arabia, as the Kingdom prepares to host the FIFA World Cup in 2034. With Saudi Arabia set to construct new stadiums, transport networks, and hotels, Bangladeshi authorities see a golden opportunity for their workforce.

A.Z.M. Nurul Huq of the Ministry of Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment highlights this as a chance for Bangladeshi migrants, who have established a strong presence in various sectors across the Kingdom. With over 3 million Bangladeshis residing in Saudi Arabia, they form the largest expatriate group, primarily in construction roles such as masons, electricians, and plumbers.

To meet the demands of the World Cup projects, Bangladesh is offering reskilling and upskilling programs, ensuring their workers can secure employment and increase earnings. This initiative aligns with Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030, which emphasizes workforce competence.

The expatriates’ ministry is collaborating with Saudi Arabia’s skills verification authority, Takamol, to tailor training programs at Bangladesh’s technical centers. These centers adapt their courses to match the latest workforce needs in Saudi Arabia, providing certification recognized by Saudi authorities.

With the World Cup on the horizon, Bangladesh plans to expand its training facilities, strengthening ties with Takamol to produce more skilled workers tailored for the Saudi labor market. This strategy positions Bangladeshi migrants to play a pivotal role in the Kingdom’s ambitious infrastructure projects.
