The government plans to finish repairing all damaged roads in the capital by October, according to Environment Adviser Syeda Rizwana Hasan.

Additionally, the environment ministry is collaborating with the road transport ministry to phase out outdated public buses. They aim to replace these with 250 new buses to modernize the fleet, Rizwana said after a meeting with a Chinese delegation at the Secretariat.

During the meeting, Chinese specialists shared their experiences in controlling air pollution. Rizwana noted that the government will work with these experts to implement similar strategies in Bangladesh to improve air quality.

The government is also developing comprehensive short, medium, and long-term plans to combat air pollution. As part of these efforts, the areas surrounding the capital will be declared “no brick field zones,” although a specific timeline for this decision was not provided.
