Bangladesh Requests Diesel Supply from India Amid Middle East Fuel Uncertainty

1 min read

Bangladesh has formally asked India to supply diesel as part of its efforts to strengthen fuel security amid the ongoing war in the Middle East. India’s Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal confirmed on Thursday (12 March) that New Delhi has received the request and is currently reviewing it.

According to Indian media reports, India will assess its own stock levels, availability, and refinery capacity before making a final decision. Officials say India will prioritise its domestic demand and capabilities before responding to Bangladesh’s request.

The spokesperson also noted that Bangladesh is not the only country seeking assistance. Sri Lanka, the Maldives and several other nations have also approached India for petroleum supplies, and those requests are under consideration as well.

Just a day earlier, Dhaka formally asked the United States to consider granting temporary waivers to allow Bangladesh to purchase Russian oil a move aimed at stabilising domestic supply and supporting the national economy.
