Bangladesh Police Chief Calls for Technology‑Driven “Smart Traffic Management”

1 min read

Bangladesh’s top police official says the future of urban traffic management must be technology‑driven, stressing that modern cities cannot function efficiently without smart systems.

Speaking on Wednesday at a day‑long workshop titled “Dhaka’s Urban Traffic Management: Challenges, Innovation and Future Directions” at the Police Staff College in Mirpur, Inspector General of Police Md Ali Hossain Fakir said global experience shows that smart traffic solutions are essential for modern urban governance.

He noted that Bangladesh is undergoing rapid urbanisation, with rising vehicle numbers, expanding city economies and increasing mobility needs all of which have made traffic management one of the country’s biggest challenges.

The IGP emphasised that addressing these issues requires coordinated action among police, city corporations, road authorities and all relevant agencies.

He added that technology‑based traffic systems would not only reduce congestion but also make urban life safer, faster and more efficient.
