In a troubling escalation at the Bangladesh-India border, two Bangladeshis were shot dead by India’s Border Security Force (BSF) early Sunday morning near Maheshpur in Jhenaidah. The incident took place on the Indian side of the border, close to Madhupur village.
The victims have been identified as Mohammad Mikail, 22, from Gopalpur village, and Md. Obaidul, 23, son of Hanif Ali. Local residents reported hearing gunfire emanating from the Indian side near Jadabpur village during the early hours. When villagers approached the border area, they discovered the two bodies lying across the border.
Maheshpur Upazila Executive Officer Yasmin Monira confirmed the incident, raising concerns over the ongoing border tensions and the use of force. The circumstances surrounding the shootings are still unclear, prompting calls for investigation and accountability.
