Bangladesh-India Cricket Tour Hinges on Government Clearance

1 min read

The upcoming cricket tour between Bangladesh and India, part of the ICC’s Future Tours Programme (FTP), is currently on hold pending approval from the Indian government, a senior Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) official told AFP on Wednesday.

Originally scheduled to start on August 17 in Dhaka, the series includes three ODIs and three T20Is. While the new-look Indian team is currently engaged in a five-Test series in England, Indian stars Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, both on a break from cricket, were expected to return for the Bangladesh series. Kohli has recently hosted teammates at his residence in England, and Rohit has been enjoying time with his family. However, the uncertain status of the tour has cast doubt on those plans.

“The tour is part of the FTP, so cancellation is not an option,” said Iftikhar Rahman, chairman of the BCB media committee. “It may be rescheduled to a mutually convenient time if needed.” The situation remains fluid, with officials awaiting official clearance from India before finalizing arrangements.
