Bangladesh Falter Against India as Batting Collapse Hurts Final Hopes

1 min read

Bangladesh’s hopes of reaching the Asia Cup final suffered a major setback after a batting collapse led to defeat against India in a crucial group-stage clash.

Victory would have put Bangladesh within touching distance of the final, and their bowlers gave them every chance by restricting India to 168 runs on Wednesday. But the batting unit failed to deliver, with the Tigers bowled out for just 127.

With regular skipper Liton Das absents, Zakir Ali Anik led the side. Speaking at the post-match press conference, he admitted the batting failure was the decisive factor. “As a batting unit, we could not perform to expectations,” he said.

India had started strongly, racing to 72 runs in the powerplay through aggressive batting from Abhishek Sharma and Shubman Gill. Bangladesh’s bowlers, however, fought back impressively to apply pressure in the middle overs. Anik praised their resilience, noting that they stuck to their plans under pressure.

Despite the disappointment, the captain expressed optimism about bouncing back in the next fixture against Tigers. He reaffirmed the team’s ambition to reach the final and challenge for the title.
