Bangladesh Arrive in Hong Kong for Crucial Asian Cup Qualifier

2 min read

The Bangladesh national football team, captained by Jamal Bhuyan and supported by midfielder Hamza Choudhury, landed in Hong Kong late Friday night after departing Dhaka earlier in the day with a brief stopover in Thailand. The squad will begin training on Saturday under head coach Javier Cabrera as they prepare for their must-win clash against Hong Kong, China.

The away fixture comes just days after Bangladesh’s heartbreaking 4–3 defeat in Dhaka, where they lost in dramatic fashion during stoppage time in a thrilling seven-goal contest. That result left Bangladesh at the bottom of Group C with only one point from three matches, putting their qualification hopes in serious jeopardy.

Currently, Hong Kong, China lead the group with seven points, followed by Singapore on five and India on two. To remain in contention for a place in the 2027 AFC Asian Cup, Bangladesh must now win all three of their remaining matches.

The team’s arrival in Hong Kong marks the beginning of a decisive phase in their campaign. Cabrera’s men will need to show resilience and tactical discipline to overcome the group leaders on their home turf. With the memory of the narrow defeat in Dhaka still fresh, the squad is determined to turn the tables and keep their qualification dream alive.

The match at Kai Tak Stadium on 14 October is expected to draw strong local support for Hong Kong, but Bangladesh’s players are motivated to deliver a performance that could revive their campaign and inspire fans back home.
