Bangladesh Army Probes Senior Officer After Ex-Wife’s Abuse Allegations

2 min read

The Bangladesh Army has established a high-level investigation board to examine abuse claims made by the ex-wife of a former senior officer. In an official Facebook statement on Friday, the Army confirmed it was alerted to the allegations before they appeared online and had already launched a formal inquiry.

Citing the complainant’s social standing and the sensitive nature of the case, the statement said military law requires a cautious, thorough approach. Pending the outcome of the investigation, the accused officer has been relieved of all duties, and disciplinary proceedings are underway.

The Army’s announcement also addressed the officer’s past: he was previously convicted in a high-profile criminal case, dismissed from service, and is currently serving a prison term. Although dismissed personnel typically lose access to medical care, housing, and other benefits, the statement noted the former officer’s family was allowed to remain in government quarters on humanitarian grounds his child is preparing for the Secondary School Certificate examinations.

Reaffirming its commitment to moral integrity, discipline, and accountability, the Bangladesh Army emphasized that it will not tolerate unethical or unlawful conduct. All allegations against its personnel are comprehensively investigated, and any proven misconduct is met with strict legal and disciplinary action.
