Awami League Faces Political Demise, Says Jamaat Leader

1 min read

Shafiqur Rahman, the Ameer of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, declared that the Awami League has reached a political impasse, following what he described as a shameful retreat of its leaders from the country.

Addressing a rally at the Sylhet Government Alia Madrasa ground, Rahman expressed disillusionment, stating, “We had hoped for a renewed commitment to integrity, but instead, they fled, acknowledging their utter failure. As the saying goes, ‘black will take no other hue.’”

He criticized the oppressive actions of the former Awami League government and shared his vision for a nation where places of worship—mosques, temples, churches, and pagodas—stand secure without the need for protection.

The rally also featured remarks from Md Joynal Abedin, the district unit general secretary of Jamaat, and Prof Nazrul Islam, its joint secretary general, among others.
