Armed Intruder Shot Dead After Breaching Mar‑a‑Lago Security Perimeter, Secret Service Says

2 min read

U.S. Secret Service agents shot and killed an armed man early Sunday after he unlawfully entered the secure perimeter of President Donald Trump’s Mar‑a‑Lago estate in Palm Beach, Florida. Trump was in Washington at the time of the incident, which occurred around 1:30am local time.

According to the Secret Service, the man described as being in his early 20s was spotted near the north gate carrying what appeared to be a shotgun and a fuel can. Agents confronted him, and shots were fired. No officers were injured.

The FBI, Secret Service and Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office have launched a joint investigation into the intruder’s background, actions and possible motive.

A Pattern of Threats Against Trump
The incident adds to a series of assassination attempts or plots targeting Trump in recent years. Earlier this month, Ryan Routh, who planned to assassinate Trump at a Florida golf course in 2024, was sentenced to life in prison. His plot followed the July 2024 rally shooting in Pennsylvania, where 20‑year‑old Matthew Crooks opened fire, grazing Trump’s ear and killing a rallygoer before being shot dead by security.
