Armed Attack in Narsingdi Claims Life of Young Woman During Prayer Time

A tragic incident unfolded in Sreenagar village, Raipura upazila of Narsingdi on Friday, as 24-year-old Shanta Islam was shot dead during an armed assault on the home of local Union Parishad Chairman Riaz Murshed Khan Russell. The attack occurred while Jumma prayers were being held.

Shanta, the wife of Russell’s cousin, Shakil Khan, was caught in the crossfire when a gang of 10 to 12 armed men, reportedly led by Sohel Mia, stormed the chairman’s residence amid ongoing feuds. With the chairman and his family absent, the assailants vandalized and looted the property. When Shanta tried to intervene, they opened fire, inflicting severe injuries.

Family members quickly transported her to Raipura Upazila Health Complex, but she was pronounced dead upon arrival. The officer-in-charge of Raipura Police Station, Md Adil Mahmud, confirmed that police have been deployed to the scene and that preparations for filing a case are underway.

Shanta’s body has been sent to the morgue at Narsingdi Sadar Hospital for an autopsy. The community is left reeling from the violence, as authorities work to address the situation and ensure justice for the victim.
