Apple has achieved a historic milestone by manufacturing a record number of iPhones in India. According to a report by Indian media outlet Economic Times, during the first half of 2025, from January to June, Indian factories produced a staggering 2.39 crore (23.9 million) iPhones.

Citing data from the mobile market research firm Canalys, the report states that this is the first time since the start of production in 2017 that such a high volume of iPhones has been produced in India in the first half of a year. Last year, from January to June 2024, Indian factories produced 1.505 crore (15.05 million) iPhones, meaning this year’s production has increased by 53 percent.

This surge in manufacturing has naturally led to a rise in exports. According to Canalys’s commercial report, between January and June 2025, India exported 2.56 million (25.6 lakh) iPhones globally, while 1.34 million (13.4 lakh) units were sold domestically within India.

In comparison, during the first half of 2024, India exported 1.47 crore (14.7 million) iPhones. The export figure has grown by 52 percent year-on-year for the January-June period in 2025.

Apple’s primary manufacturing partner in Asia is Foxconn, a Taiwan-based company that oversees all of Apple’s operations in the region. The company began producing iPhones in India in partnership with local firms starting in 2017. In 2022, a dedicated iPhone plant was established near Sriperumbudur, Chennai, in southern India. This remains India’s only official iPhone manufacturing facility to date.
