The Alfred Hospital has issued an apology to three patients and their families following a power outage that forced doctors to halt surgeries mid-operation. The incident occurred Wednesday afternoon, when power was temporarily cut to three operating rooms, the hospital confirmed in a statement.
A hospital spokesperson explained, “Taking appropriate precautions, three procedures were paused during the loss of power, and we have apologized to those patients and their families.” The hospital assured that all affected patients have since received their surgeries and are now recovering in hospital.
Backup power was available during the outage, and the surgeries were paused as a “clinical decision” made in the best interest of the patients. The hospital declined to specify the types of procedures disrupted or the duration of the outage, citing patient confidentiality.
All operating rooms at the Alfred Hospital have now resumed normal activity, and the hospital is reviewing the incident to ensure continued safety and reliability in its operations.
